Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect during my first visit?
The initial visit takes a total of 90 minutes. Patients will fill out paperwork that includes their personal health history and medication list. During the consultation, we will discuss your primary health concern(s). The acupuncture treatment will last between 20-30 minutes and after the session there is a brief follow up.
How should I dress?
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothes or bring a tee shirt and shorts to change into for the treatment.
How does acupuncture feel?
Most patients find acupuncture to be very relaxing and therapeutic. Since the needles are almost as thin as a strand of hair, patients describe the feeling as a small pinch, similar to a mosquito bite. Often times this is followed by a sensation of tingling, numbness, heaviness or a dull ache. This is the arrival of Qi or the body's energy.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments needed depends on whether your condition is chronic or acute. A chronic condition has existed for a few years and will require more treatments to correct the pattern of imbalance. An acute condition is one that has lasted less than a year and will require fewer treatments. This will be discussed during the follow up after the consultation and diagnosis has been completed.
